The Nest Haberdashery

Winner in 2 x categories:

This award recognised The Nest Community's programs: connecting women and supporting them in building skills and confidence through projects like the Exchange Project.

-       Award for Environment & Sustainability Excellence

This award celebrated The Nest Community’s "circular textile practices" through the Nest Haberdashery, Queensland's largest community-based textile recovery initiative.

The Nest Haberdashery rescues and redistributes donated craft supplies and textiles, reducing waste.

City of Moreton Bay Business and Innovation Awards recognise the contribution of businesses and individuals to the City’s economy. Each business or individual must meet certain criteria, focusing on factors like:

-       Innovation

-       Leadership

-       Customer service

-       Sustainability

-       Community impact

This is then supported by evidence in the submission when entering.  Submissions are judged on the quality and thoroughness of the application.

THE NEST COMMUNITY

In early 2012, Roz Holt was running a small business by the name of The Nest Project teaching girls handmaking skills.  This then seeded the idea for The Nest Community, a nurturing space where women of all ages can connect purposefully through craft.

They then became a registered charity in 2019, The Nest Community Ltd.

Due to growth in textile donations, demand for accessibility and administration support for volunteers, their operations were now on a commercial scale.

In 2023, The Nest Community moved to The Sheds at Brendale, where they opened a Textile Recovery Centre with The Nest Haberdashery as its storefront.

With the support of The Shed’s owners, Jenny and Doug Fisher (Wattle Run Pty Ltd), The Nest Community then opened the Gladys Mary Studio to host their flagship program: The Exchange Project.

Today, we are lucky that they call The Sheds at Brendale home.

We would like to say our heartfelt congratulations to The Nest Community on being a winner in two categories at the Moreton Bay Business and Innovation Awards.
